About Heckfire
Heckfire is a free online horizontal shoot 'em up inspired by late-80s arcade space shooters. Your tiny ship scrolls from left to right through a suspicious nebula while enemies, bullets, bosses, and bad decisions drift in from the other side.
The gimmick is the weapon switcher: instead of aiming freely, you swap between four fixed firing patterns. Shoot forward, vertical, four-way diagonal, or backwards-and-forwards depending on what the level is doing to you. Grab P power-ups, S speed-ups, B bonus icons, and use the big Heckfire bomb when the screen becomes legally crowded.
How to Play Heckfire
- Move with WASD, arrow keys, by dragging on the playfield, or with the on-screen touch buttons.
- Your ship auto-fires. Press Z, Space, or CHANGE to cycle through four fixed weapon directions.
- Collect P icons to increase firepower, S icons for speed, B icons for score, and shield icons for temporary safety.
- Press X or HECKFIRE to bomb the screen. You get a fresh bomb after a death or boss clear.
- Clear six stages and their bosses. Getting hit costs a life and knocks down your power and speed.
Tips & Tricks
- Switch weapons before you need them. Vertical shots are great when enemies stack above and below you.
- Do not over-upgrade speed unless you enjoy crashing with confidence.
- Save Heckfire for bosses or when bullets have turned the whole screen into soup.
Heckfire FAQ
Is Heckfire based on Hellfire?
It is a legally distinct, intentionally crappy homage to the same kind of late-80s horizontal arcade shooter: scrolling stages, fixed-direction weapon switching, power-ups, and bosses.
Does Heckfire work on mobile?
Yes. The ship auto-fires, you can drag on the playfield to fly like Sky Rat, and the page still includes touch buttons for movement, weapon change, and the Heckfire bomb.
How many stages are there?
There are six stages. After that, you have technically saved space, which is more than most browsers accomplish.
