About Primordial Bits
Primordial Bits is a free evolution simulator that runs entirely in your browser. A primordial soup of simple creatures spawns into the world. Each one has a genome that controls how it moves, how far it can sense food, and how it spends energy. Creatures that eat enough reproduce, with mutations. Creatures that don't, don't.
There's no goal and no win state — it's an artificial life sandbox. Use the sidebar to change the food spawn rate and other parameters, click or tap any creature to inspect its stats, and zoom with the mouse wheel or a pinch gesture. Leave it running for ten minutes and the population will look nothing like it did at the start.
How to Play Primordial Bits
- Click or tap any creature to select it and inspect its genome and stats in the sidebar.
- Scroll the mouse wheel or pinch to zoom. Middle-drag on desktop or drag with one finger on mobile to pan.
- Adjust the Spawn Rate slider to control how much food appears — starve them or flood them.
- Watch the population graph. Booms and crashes are normal. That's evolution.
- Reset the world at any time to start a fresh soup.
Tips & Tricks
- Low food rates favour creatures with long sense range. High food rates favour fast breeders.
- Select a creature that's been alive a long time — it's usually doing something clever.
- It's a great background tab. Nothing needs you.

Is Primordial Bits a game?
It's a simulation you can poke at. There's no score, but there's plenty to watch and tweak.
Does it use a lot of CPU?
With hundreds of creatures it does some work, but it's designed to run smoothly in a modern browser. Lower the population cap if your laptop fan complains.
Does Primordial Bits work on mobile?
Yes. Tap creatures to inspect them, drag to pan the world, and pinch to zoom. Desktop still has mouse wheel zoom and middle-drag panning.
Can I save my world?
Not yet. Every world is unique and temporary, like all of us.
