About Popup Purgatory
Popup Purgatory is a free arcade survival game that recreates the worst part of the 2003 internet. Popup windows spawn on the screen — congratulations you've won, hot singles in your area, your PC is infected — and each one has a tiny, badly placed close button. Click the X. Close them faster than they appear.
Chain closes quickly to build a combo. Miss the X and hit the ad instead and you get punished. Let 24 windows pile up and your machine dies. It's a reaction game about clicking small things under pressure, and it is exactly as stressful as it sounds.
How to Play Popup Purgatory
- Popups appear on the screen. Each has a small X button somewhere on its title bar.
- Click the X to close the popup. Clicking anywhere else on the popup counts as a misclick.
- Close popups in quick succession to build a combo multiplier.
- Popups spawn faster over time. If 24 are on screen at once, your machine crashes and it's over.
- Your survival time and score are saved as a best in your browser.
Tips & Tricks
- Close the biggest popups first — they hide other X buttons.
- Don't chase the combo when you're near the cap. Just survive.
- The X is not always where you expect. Look before you click.
